Creating a scene in 2D
Drawing walls in the 2D view
When you create a scene from scratch, start with drawing walls.- Click Draw Wall
on the Toolbar - The cursor will turn into a pencil
- Move the cursor to where you want to begin drawing
- Click once
- Drag the line to the desired length
- Click again when you have reached the desired length
- Draw the 2nd wall perpendicular to the 1st wall
- Click again when you have reached the desired length
- Repeat until you have finished all four walls and constructed a room
- Adjust the dimensions anytime by clicking and dragging a wall
- Right Click on your mouse and select Draw Walls to draw walls
- Type D to draw walls
Inserting doors in the 2D view
You can insert one or more doors into each wall.- Click Insert Doors
on the Toolbar - A list of door styles appear on the Catalog panel on the left
- Click and drag a door to a wall
- Click to insert the door
- Advanced functions: Right Click on your mouse to select Insert > Doors for more style and dimension options e.g. Glass > Double-Flush > 36 X 80"
- If the door turns to red, that means its location is in conflict with other objects (e.g. a window)
Inserting windows in the 2D view
You can insert one or more windows into each wall.- Click Insert Windows
on the Toolbar - A list of window styles appear on the Catalog panel on the left
- Click and drag a window to a wall
- Click to insert the window
- Advanced functions: Right Click on your mouse to select Insert > Windows for more style and dimension options e.g. Glass > 36 X 36"
- If the window turns to red, that means its location is in conflict with other objects (e.g. a window)
Inserting lights in the 2D view
- Click Insert Lights
on the Toolbar - Place the cursor where you want to place the light
- Click to insert the light
- Right Click on your mouse and select Lights > Add Light
- Type L to insert lights
- A message will pop up if you have reached the limit of lights for that design layout
Inserting extra structural features in the 2D view
You may add extra features to a Scene in addition to walls, doors and windows Insert Stairs- On the Catalog panel, Click on the drop down list
- Select Stairs
- Click and drag a stair into the scene
- Click to insert the stair
- If the stair turns to red, that means its location is in conflict with other objects (e.g. a window)
Insert Posts
- Right click on your mouse
- Select Insert > Posts > Square 12X12" or Square 24X24"
- Place the post in the desired position
- Click to insert the post
- Click on a post then the circle to rotate a post
Adding or removing objects in the 2D view
In a 2D view, you can add the following objects- Walls
- Doors
- Windows
- Lights
- Stairs
- Posts
- Click on an object in the scene
- Click on Remove
on the Toolbar
Moving objects in the 2D view
You can move objects to customize your scene- Click on an object in the scene
- Drag the object to the desired location
- If the object turns red, that means its location is in conflict with other surrounding objects.
Resizing objects in the 2D view
You can resize walls, doors and windows anytime to customize your sceneResize a wall
- Click on a wall
- Drag it to the new position (adjacent walls will be adjusted automatically)
- Place the cursor over a door
- Click on one of the 2 circles at the edge of the door
- Drag the door to the desired width
- If the door turns red, it means the new dimensions are in conflict with surrounding objects (e.g. a window).
- Click on a window
- Click on the edge of the window
- Drag the window to the desired width
- If the window turns red, it means the new dimensions are in conflict with surrounding objects (e.g. a window).
Duplicating objects in the 2D view
You can make a copy of an object right in the scene. Duplicate an object- Click on an object
- Click Duplicate
on the toolbar
Undoing or redoing an action in the 2D view
You can undo the last action (e.g. return to the last view) or redo the last action (e.g. re-add the object you just deleted)Undo
- Click on Undo
to undo the last action e.g. return to the last view
- Click on Redo
to redo the last action e.g. re-add the object you just deleted
Viewing in 2D
The view functions allow you to view your scene in various ways. Zoom- Click Zoom in
to zoom into your scene from the current angle - Click Zoom out
to zoom out from the current angle
- Click View whole scene
to step back and look at your whole scene
Writing a note about an object
To help you organize, create and shop, you can attach a personal note to an object.Write a note about an object
- Select an object in the scene
- Click Note tab open a note area
- Enter text
- Click Save
Add an object
- Go to the Object Catalog on the left side of the screen
- Select subcategories from the drop down lists
- Click on an object and drag it into the scene
- Click the Google 3D Objects tab at the top of the screen
- Navigate and find the Google object you want
- Click Download to insert the object into your scene
Remove an object
Back to top- Click on an object in the scene (a blue box indicates that an object is selected)
- Click Remove Object on the toolbar to delete the selected object from the scene
Modify an object
Back to top- Click on an object in the scene (a blue box indicates that an object is selected)
- Click and hold the Left Mouse Button to move the selected object
- Click Rotate Clockwise or Rotate Counter-clockwise on the toolbar to rotate the selected object incrementally in a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction
- Click Move Higher
or Move Lower
to adjust the height of the selected object
Duplicate an object
Back to top- Click on an object in the scene (a blue box indicates that an object is selected)
- Click Duplicate
to create an identical object
Inspect an object
Back to top- Click on an object in the scene (a blue box indicates that an object is selected) or on the Object Catalog on the left side of the screen
- A thumbnail of the object appears at the bottom of the page
- Click View Object to view an enlarged image from different angles
Write a note about an object
Back to top- Click on an object in the scene (a blue box indicates that an object is selected) or on the Object Catalog on the left side of the screen
- A thumbnail of the object appears at the bottom of the page
- Click Note to enter your note about the selected object
Undo or redo an action
Back to top- Click on Undo
to undo the last action e.g. return to the last view - Click on Redo

Back to top- If this is a new, unsaved scene
- Click on Save
in the toolbar - Go to the Save Panel on the left side of the screen
- Enter a scene name and optional information such as tags
- Click the Save button
- If there are new changes since you last saved the scene
- Click on Save
in the toolbar - All changes are automatically saved
- If you import a scene that is created by someone else NOTE: You cannot save a scene that is marked "View Only"
- Click on Save
or Save As
in the toolbar - Enter a scene name and optional information such as tags
- Click the Save button
- If you want to save a copy of the scene in a different name
- Click on Save As
in the toolbar - Enter a scene name and optional information such as tags
- Click the Save button
Start a new scene
Back to top- Click on New scene
in the toolbar - Your current scene closes and a new blank scene will appear Note: If you have not saved your current scene, or if there are changes since you last saved, a reminder will appear.
